Climate+ Awards Best Climate Impact Idea at Queen's Student Enterprise Competition

The winning team’s ‘Waste 2 Wildlife’ project is a nature-based social enterprise focused on tackling climate and biodiversity challenges as well as supporting at-risk groups.

Samuel Rowan and team awarded Best Climate Impact Idea by Business Development Manager, Gary Clarke.

The Co-Centre for Climate + Biodiversity + Water was delighted to sponsor the Best Climate Impact Idea category in this year’s ‘What’s the Big Idea?’ competition, hosted by Queen’s University Belfast Students' Union. This initiative encourages students to propose new business ideas that have the potential to make a difference across categories, including climate and the environment.

The Best Climate Impact Idea award celebrates projects that demonstrate a meaningful commitment to addressing the climate crisis while being self-sustaining. The volume and range of creative and impactful ideas submitted demonstrated students' commitment to addressing this critical challenge.

This year's winning project in the Best Climate Impact category is 'Waste 2 Wildlife,’ led by Samuel Rowan and his team. Their goal is to establish a social enterprise that collaborates with at-risk groups to create and sell bat boxes, birdhouses, and otter holts made from reclaimed materials. This initiative aims to boost wildlife populations, while also enhancing the confidence and skills of the individuals involved.

The Climate+ Co-Centre congratulates Samuel and his team on their remarkable achievement and commends their dedication to making a positive impact on the climate crisis. Congratulations are also extended to all participants for their contributions, we look forward to seeing how these innovative ideas will grow and develop.
