Queen’s University Belfast has been named as one of the top 200 Universities in the world actively contributing to global sustainable development, in the latest THE Impact Rankings.

The rankings, now in their sixth year, are based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals and measure 1,963 universities internationally, with Queen’s among the top 10% across the world.

Queen’s ranked in the top 100 Universities for five categories including:

• 9^th in the world for its work supporting life on land;
• 19^th in the world for ‘life below water’, supporting aquatic ecosystems;
• 43^rd in the world for reducing inequalities in areas such as the number of first-generation students and levels of both students and staff with disabilities.

Welcoming the announcement, Queen’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Ian Greer, said:

“It’s fantastic to once again see the hard work and efforts of our staff and students recognised on a global stage, demonstrating our University’s commitment to shaping a better world by contributing meaningfully towards the UN Sustainable Development Goals, as set out in our Strategy 2030.

“As we look to our 180^th year, Queen’s will continue to be a force of positive transformation, changing lives for the better by finding solutions to the many major and existential challenges facing our communities and the wider world. Through our research, teaching and civic mission, we will continue to innovate, solve problems, and break new ground.
