Queen's colleagues recognised in King's Birthday Honours 2024
Leading academics and figures from Queen's University Belfast have been recognised in HM The King’s Birthday Honours List 2024.
The list marks the achievements and service of extraordinary people across the UK.
With wide-ranging expertise in healthcare, education, the economy and opera, the members of the Queen’s community who have received honours come from the Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Social Sciences, the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Life Sciences, as well as Queen's Senate and the Institute of Professional Legal Studies:
- Robert Bailie OBE, Member of Queen's Senate, has been named Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) for services to the economy and opera.
- Professor Donna Fitzsimons, Head of the School of Nursing and Midwifery, has been named Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to Healthcare and to Education.
- Professor Barbara Jemphrey, Director of the Institute of Professional Legal Studies, has been named Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to Education.
- Professor David Jones FREng, Professor, Pharmaceutical and Biomaterial Engineering and lately Pro-Vice-Chancellor, has been named Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to Education and to Pharmacy.
- Dr James (Seamus) McAleer, Clinical Senior Lecturer in Oncology at the Centre for Medical Education, and Consultant Clinical Oncologist, Northern Ireland Cancer Centre, has been named Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to Cancer Care and Treatment in Northern Ireland.
In addition, the following staff from Stranmillis University College, a college of The Queen's University of Belfast, have been recognised:
- Professor Noel Purdy, Director of Research and Scholarship at Stranmillis University College, has been named Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) for services to Education.
- William Patterson, Governor of Stranmillis University College, has been named Medallist of the Order of the British Empire (BEM) for voluntary service to Higher Education.
