Queen's Postdoctoral Researchers celebrated in annual showcase event
The annual Postdoc Showcase at Queen’s University took place on Monday 16 September. The theme of this year's event was 'Helping to Shape a Better World’.
This event – held in celebration of National Postdoc Appreciation Week 2024 (16 to 20 September 2024) – was organised by the Postdoc Society (PDS) with support from the Postdoctoral Development Centre (PDC), and took place in The Malone Hotel.
The day was an opportunity for all Postdocs and research staff at Queen's to showcase their research, learn about research activity underway in other areas of the University, and take part in face-to-face networking. The day also saw the awarding of the PDC Postdoc Awards.
Guest speaker Professor Archie Clements, Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Research and Enterprise, opened proceedings with reflections on his career progression. This was followed by a welcome session from Postdoc Society (PDS) Chair and event coordinator Dr Danielle Logan and PDS Deputy Chair Dr Alex Lucas. Dr Alice Dubois, Research Culture Manager at Queen’s, then provided an update about the Postdoctoral Development Centre that supports Queen’s Postdocs and research staff. Dr Alex Lucas and Dr Omololu Fagunwa (PDS member) then facilitated a panel discussion on ‘Life After Postdoc’ featuring academic members of staff from Queen’s, including Dr Alice Dubois, Dr Sean Cullen, Dr Charles Vincent, Professor Karen McCloskey and Dr Darren Gray of Almac Group.
Attendees also enjoyed a research poster exhibition and five-minute flash-talks by selected Postdocs and research staff, with prizes for the best flash-talks and posters. The research talks and posters aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, and were pitched to a wide audience, in order to enable researchers across the different disciplines to understand and enjoy them.
The winners of the PDC Postdoc Awards were also presented during the showcase event. All winners and nominees can be viewed below:
