University response to recent events in Israel, Gaza and the Middle East
This page sets out Queen’s University Belfast’s response to recent events in Israel, Gaza and the Middle East, including advice and support for staff and students impacted.
We recognise the news of the recent conflict is distressing and are particularly mindful of our students and colleagues with family and other connections in these areas.
We want to offer welfare and other types of support to any members of our University community who are affected in any way.
We will continue to monitor the situation and evolve our support as appropriate.
Support for students
Wellbeing support
The Student Wellbeing Service operate a daily drop in on Level 1 of One Elmwood where you can access wellbeing support. Drop in is available between 11.00am and 3.00pm every day or you can access online.
Academic support
Students should contact their Personal Tutor or School Office if they have concerns about their academic work.
Student travel
As always, students and staff must keep up to date with Government travel advice. Students must also speak to their supervisor and complete a risk assessment before undertaking any travel associated with their studies.
If the FCDO advises against "all but essential travel" to that destination, then serious consideration must be given to cancellation or deferment of the journey.
Guidance for staff and students on travel to high-risk destinations is available here.
Support for staff
Wellbeing support
Members of our Staff Wellbeing Unit in the People and Culture Directorate will be able to meet with and discuss the support available to impacted staff.
Please email wellbeing@qub.ac.uk and a member of the team will respond directly to you.
The University also has a wide range of wellbeing support available through our Employee Assistance Programme.
