Staff Survey 2023 now live
Queen’s Staff Survey 2023 launched on Monday 16 October and will be live for four weeks until Friday 10 November.
The survey is confidential and provides an opportunity for staff to share their views on all aspects of their experience at work to help shape action planning and affect real change.
Announcing the 2023 Staff Survey, President and Vice-Chancellor Professor Sir Ian Greer said: “In line with our People and Culture Plan 2023-26, launched in May of this year, we are committed to further developing our employee listening approach to support an engaged workforce who are proud to work for Queen’s. Staff Surveys play a vital role in this, allowing you to share confidential feedback on all aspects of your experience at work to help shape action planning and effect real change. Your voice really does matter."
A new Employee Listening Plan was approved by the University Management Board in June, setting out a strategic approach to continuous listening which will build recognised and trusted ways for staff to share their views, and provide opportunities to co-create the employee experience at Queen’s. The Staff Survey is an important element of this, allowing us to see how the employee experience has changed over time, and how Queen’s is performing when compared with other institutions in the sector.
Vice President and Chief People Officer, Gillian Magee, commented: “In May of this year, we launched our People and Culture Plan, committing to support a vibrant organisational culture based on our core values. This plan is based on feedback that you have provided through staff surveys. You have told us what has been working well and where we needed to take action. Now, we want to build on this and continue to improve the experience for all of our colleagues at work.
"Your feedback makes a difference. Share your views in the survey by Friday 10 November. Your voice really does matter, and we look forward to sharing the results and emerging themes with you in the new year.”
Completing the survey
The survey will be administered through the People Insight platform.
Colleagues will receive an email from survey-invite@peopleinsight.co.uk on Monday 16 October inviting you to take part.
Confidentiality
As with previous surveys, the information you provide in response to the survey is strictly confidential and cannot be traced back to you individually.

Action taken following previous Staff Surveys
There has been a considerable amount of action taken as a result of both the Staff Survey and the subsequent Pulse Surveys in 2020 and 2022, most notably:
- We are working towards implementing an academic work planning system, Simitive, which will provide the data to enable us to address academic workload;
- We introduced new opportunities for informal flexible working with an emphasis on hybrid arrangements;
- We launched our Staff Charter, which builds on our core values and sets out the behaviours that we want to encourage as well as those which should be discouraged.

Next steps
Following the survey, results will be analysed to inform the next Institutional Action Plan. Timing for this process will be as follows:
- Results will be compiled and shared with University Management Board, the Staff Forum and the Employee Listening Steering Group in January.
- The institutional areas for action will be agreed and communicated to staff in February.
- The cascade of action planning to Faculties and Professional Services will follow.
