Staff achievements celebrated at Green Awards 2016

Christine Carrothers from Information Services is this year’s ‘Environmental Champion of the Year’.

She received the award from the Registrar and Chief Operating Officer, James O'Kane, for all the work she does to “embed good environmental practices within the McClay Library.”

Christine was one of a number of Special Award winners at this year’s Annual Green Awards ceremony which celebrates the achievements and efforts of staff and student in improving the environmental performance of the University.

As well as the 71 teams who took part in this year’s Green Impact Scheme, other winners on the day included:

  • PhD student Chris McCallum from the School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering who won the Student Leadership student of the year.
  • School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, winner of the Innovation for Engagement Award for their efforts to engage staff and students on environmental issues.
  • McClay Library (Bibliographic Services) which won the Environmental Improvement Award for the development of a new web-based system for handling books. 
  • University Gardening Team, winners of the Community Action Award for their work across the campus and in our local community to enhance nature and biodiversity.
