STEM Innovators Event
This exciting event was hosted by Queen’s Gender Initiative and featured female STEM Professors who have bridged academic research and the commercial sector through the founding of spinout companies.
Professor Helen McCarthy, founder of pHion Therapeutics, Professor Su Taylor, co-founder of Senengia Ltd and Professor Lorraine Martin co-founder of ProAxsis shared their experiences of translating scientific discoveries to the marketplace in the areas of Nanomedicine, Civil Engineering and Biomarker Assay Development.
Professor Nola Hewitt-Dundas, Head of the Management School at Queen’s discussed the challenges faced by academics, and specifically female academics, in seeking to commercialise their research.
Professor Karen McCloskey, Director of Queen’s Gender Initiative facilitated an interactive discussion between the audience and the presenters with the aim of inspiring women in STEM research to explore opportunities at the academia-commercial interface.
This event was aimed at PhD and Masters students, Researchers, Academics, STEM companies and people with an interest in STEM and entrepreneurship.
