MediaLab welcomes you to the first in a series of talks with inspiring leaders and innovators in the sphere of advanced media production, immersive technology and the Metaverse. Supported by the AHRC Impact Acceleration Account at Queen’s University.

Hailed as game changing back in 2021, but is the use of LED Walls and virtual production really opening up new creative opportunities for storytellers and filmmakers?
Director/Cinematographer Robert Payton will be sharing aspects of his recent projects at ARRI, and there will be an opportunity for Q&A.

About the Speaker:
Robert Payton is a Director and Cinematographer with over 35 years’ experience in television and advertising. His awards Include Best Documentary at New York Film and TV Festival and Best Cinematography at BTAA & The Royal Television Society. He spent 15 years in South Africa shooting and directing international commercials. An early adopter of LED and Virtual Production, for the last 2 years he has consulted for productions and assisted DoP’s and crew make the transition to filming on LED environments. A passionate filmmaker whose enthusiasm for imagery is infectious.
He is currently based at ARRI Stage London consulting for ARRI Solutions Group as a Production Specialist – focusing on Virtual Production & Production integration.

To support ongoing research and collaboration in relation to the Metaverse, the AHRC impact Acceleration account has funded a series of seminars aimed at supporting the research and innovation community engaged in the utilisation of immersive technologies. These seminars will engage critical leaders from diverse creative and technology fields to deliver accessible and timely critical perspectives on emerging technology trends aimed at supporting academia and industry collaboration.
