- Senni Maatta (ESR10) Governmentality of Public Participation in Renewable Energy
- Robert Wade (ESR15) The Political Economy of Opposition to Wind Energy Projects
QUB is the coordinating organisation of MISTRAL, will lead WP1 and WP6, and host a summer school.
QUB is a member of the Russell Group of 24 leading UK research intensive universities and is ranked a UK top 10 research intensive university and is a Top 50 university in the UK for promoting the careers of women in science and engineering. The project will be coordinated by the School of Natural and Built Environment (SNBE) with experience of involvement in ITN and over £4m of annual research income and over 130 currently enrolled PhD students.
QUB engages in partnership with businesses, public bodies and NGOs and in this field it has included participation in the International Energy Agency’s Task 28 on social acceptance on wind, advised bodies such as the Sustainable Energy Authority Ireland, Northern Ireland Assembly and Ireland’s National and Economic Council, and worked with major wind energy developers such as Coillte and SSE. SNBE has held major grants on renewable energy from EPSRC and ESRC as well a contributing to major international projects including Denmark’s Wind 2050 (funded by DSRC) and Canada’s Meaning of Community Wind (funded by SSHRC).
In 2012 QUB received the European Commission HR Excellence in Research Award, a UK-wide process, incorporating the Concordat to Support the Career Development of Researchers and QAA Code of Practice for Research Degree Programmes that acknowledges alignment with the principles of the European Charter for Researchers and Code of Conduct for their Recruitment. QUB holds an Athena SWAN institutional Silver award whilst the School of Natural and Built Environment - where ESRs will be hosted - holds a Silver award.
